# Switching to AvoFax from a fax machine or another service

Switching to AvoFax is quick, and there is no hardware to buy and no phone line to install.

**If you want to keep your current number**

- Bring it with you by porting it in. Start your signup on the [porting page](https://app.avofax.com/promo-pi), and see the porting guide for the details and what to have ready.

**If a new number is fine**

- Just [sign up here](https://app.avofax.com/promo) and pick a number.

**Bring your contacts**

- Save the people you fax often under [Contacts](https://app.avofax.com/contacts), or import a list at once from [Import contacts](https://app.avofax.com/contacts/import).

Keep your old fax service active until any number transfer is confirmed complete, then cancel it.
