How to find your account number and PIN to port your fax number

The most common reason a port stalls is a missing or incorrect account number or PIN from your current provider. Here is exactly what we need, and where to find it.

What every port needs

The exact fax number you are bringing over.
Your current fax provider's name.
Your account number with that provider.
Your account PIN, passcode, or port-out PIN.
The billing phone number and service address on that account.
A recent bill or invoice (PDF or photo, under 1 MB).

The name, address, and account number must match your current provider's records exactly — a mismatch is the number one cause of port rejections.

Where to find them, by provider

eFax: Your account number and service address are on your eFax invoice and in your eFax account profile. eFax does not issue a customer "PIN" — we handle the carrier-to-carrier request for you. Heads up: some numbers eFax assigned to you (rather than ones you originally ported in) can carry a one-time release fee; we will tell you if that applies.
MetroFax / MyFax / eVoice: Sign in to your account portal for the account number and service address. These carriers often say a port-out PIN is "generated automatically when the details match," so the key is making sure the account number, name, and address you give us are exactly what is on file.
magicJack: Get your account number from my.magicJack.com, and confirm it with magicJack support (1-844-866-2442) since the portal sometimes shows the wrong on

This is a fair question to ask before you commit, and the short answer is that your number is always yours.

You own your number

AvoFax acts as the custodian of your fax number, similar to how a brokerage holds your stocks while you remain the owner. You keep full ownership at all times.

You can leave any time

Under FCC rules, you can port your number out to any other provider whenever you want. Porting in or out takes about 1 to 3 business days.

If AvoFax ever shut down

All records of your number are stored securely and can be ported in or out, so your number would never be stranded. To date, no AvoFax user has ever lost a number.

How long does porting take, and how do I check my port status?

How long it takes

Most ports complete in 1 to 3 business days. Toll-free numbers and some landline ports can take a little longer.
You get a temporary number right away, so you can send and receive the entire time — there is no downtime.
When the transfer completes, your real number automatically replaces the temporary one. You do not need to do anything else.

How to check your status

Open the Phone Numbers page — your porting number shows its current state there.
We also email you at each step, including the scheduled completion date (the carrier's "FOC date") once your current provider confirms it.

Common reasons a port is delayed or rejected — and the fix

Name or address mismatch: the details must match your current provider's records exactly. Recheck the service address, including suite number and ZIP+4.
Wrong or missing account number / PIN: see "How to find your account number and PIN to port your fax number."
Account not active: keep your current fax service paid and active until the port finishes.
A pending order on the line: cancel any open change or disconnect order with your current provider first.

If a port is rejected, we email you exactly what the carrier flagged so you can fix it and resubmit without losing your place.

Tip: do not cancel your old fax service until we confirm the port is fully complete.

How to add or port an existing phone number

You have two ways to get a fax number on AvoFax: get a brand new number, or bring (port) a number you already use somewhere else.

Option A. Get a brand new number

New customers pick a number during signup.
Already have an account and want another number? Open Phone Numbers and add one.
Additional numbers are a small monthly add on per number.

Option B. Bring your existing number (porting)

You can keep the number you already give out. Here is how it works.

If you are brand new:

Start your signup on the porting page.
You are given a temporary number right away so you can send and receive immediately.
Fill out the port request. When the transfer completes, your real number automatically replaces the temporary one.

If you already have an account:

Go to Phone Numbers.
Choose Port a number and complete the port request form.

What you need for the port request (have these ready so it goes through on the first try):

The exact phone number you want to bring over.
The name of your current fax provider.
Your account number and account PIN or passcode with that provider.
The billing phone number and service address on that account.
A recent bill or invoice from that provider (PDF or photo, under 1 MB).
