How to add or port an existing phone number
<p>You have two ways to get a fax number on AvoFax: get a brand new number, or bring (port) a number you already use somewhere else.</p>
<p><strong>Option A. Get a brand new number</strong></p>
<ul><li>New customers pick a number during <a href="https://app.avofax.com/promo">signup</a>.</li><li>Already have an account and want another number? Open <a href="https://app.avofax.com/settings/workspace/numbers">Phone Numbers</a> and add one.</li><li>Additional numbers are a small monthly add on per number.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Option B. Bring your existing number (porting)</strong></p>
<p>You can keep the number you already give out. Here is how it works.</p>
<p><em>If you are brand new:</em></p>
<ol><li>Start your signup on the <a href="https://app.avofax.com/promo-pi">porting page</a>.</li><li>You are given a temporary number right away so you can send and receive immediately.</li><li>Fill out the port request. When the transfer completes, your real number automatically replaces the temporary one.</li></ol>
<p><em>If you already have an account:</em></p>
<ol><li>Go to <a href="https://app.avofax.com/settings/workspace/numbers">Phone Numbers</a>.</li><li>Choose Port a number and complete the port request form.</li></ol>
<p><strong>What you need for the port request</strong> (have these ready so it goes through on the first try):</p>
<ul><li>The exact phone number you want to bring over.</li><li>The name of your current fax provider.</li><li>Your account number and account PIN or passcode with that provider.</li><li>The billing phone number and service address on that account.</li><li>A recent bill or invoice from that provider (PDF or photo, under 1 MB).</li></ul>
<p><strong>How long it takes</strong></p>
<ul><li>Most ports complete in 1 to 3 business days.</li><li>You keep sending and receiving on your temporary number the whole time, so there is no downtime.</li><li>When the port finishes, the temporary number is swapped out for your real number automatically. You do not need to do anything else.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Tip:</strong> keep your current fax service active until the port is confirmed complete. Do not cancel it early, or the transfer can be rejected.</p>
